Castel Béranger is considered by many the masterpiece of Guimard.
Contemporaries named this building Castel Dérangé (deranged, mentally deranged they meant) because of the real crazy mix of different styles. As always, I think one cannot really understand this looking at my photo. I suggest you follow the link to the details page, really astonishing.
You will notice a real combination of different styles, materials and shapes, unusual also for Art Nouveau artists, who were rather experimental by themselves.
Despite the critics this building won the first prize at the contest for facades of Paris, as you can see from this iron writing on the front of the building.
